The direct electricity used by data centers has become an important issue in recent years. Storing data and cooling computers use energy but also sending and receiving files over the internet require a substantial amount of energy, and here is a great potential if you can find a way to reduce the energy consumption when data is transported around the world.

Prof. Leif K. Oxenløwe and his team investigate new technologies that can reduce the energy consumption and the development of the rainbow chip, saving energy while carrying 1.8 million gigabits of data / second - equivalent to twice the globe's total data traffic - is an example of an energy saving technology.
